David Basham, an experienced dairy farmer near Mount Compass, is the Liberal candidate for the electorate of Finniss for the 2018 State Election.
David has been farming in the area for almost 30 years, and is a member of a pioneer family that settled in the region in the 1840s. He lives on the farm with his wife Kate and daughters Evie and Annabelle.
David has played a prominent role in the national and South Australian dairy industries. For more than a decade he was the President of the South Australian Dairyfarmers’ Association (SADA), and more recently he was President of the peak national body, Australian Dairy Farmers Ltd (ADF).
David oversaw the development of the SADA Fresh milk brand, now a popular brand on supermarket shelves in South Australia, sales of which support projects assisting the state’s dairy farmers worth more than $500,000 per year.
David also led the national industry through some of the toughest times it had ever faced, advising governments on dairy industry matters as well as broader issues such as regional policy and water reform in the Murray-Darling Basin.
David has been actively involved in his local community, serving in recent years on the Fleurieu Regional Development Board and also on the board of Investigator College where he oversaw a $7 million investment in a new senior student complex.
David is keen to see the agricultural and tourism sectors in Finniss grow and thrive, creating more jobs and opportunities in the electorate. He is keen to see local doctors and members of the community have a much greater say in how their health needs are met, he’s keen on investments in infrastructure and ensuring local schools are safe environments in which children can learn, play and develop.
David lives and breathes his community and will be a highly effective advocate for his community.
