Clipper Round the World Yacht Race

What we’ll do

A Marshall Liberal Government will use the Event Bid Fund to bid to be a host port for the 2019-20 and 2021-22 Clipper Race events.

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is the world’s biggest ocean race, lasting 10 months and involving 12 identical 70-foot yachts with over 700 crew.

This race is a world-renowned tourism event that will provide South Australia with significant international exposure and a Marshall Liberal Government will put South Australia in the best position to bid successfully for this event.

Why we’re doing it

The worldwide race gives host ports great exposure across six continents with international media attending each host port and broadcasting to a global audience of more than a billion people.

In 2017, the race launch in Liverpool attracted over 80,000 visitors and injected around $15 million into the local economy with a significantly higher advertising and public relations value.

Aside from the international exposure and tourism benefits, significant trade and investment, community arts and culture and educational opportunities can also be realised if Adelaide becomes a host port.

That’s why we will prioritise a bid to be a host port for this important event.
