Port Wakefield Road Overpass

We are committed to productive infrastructure

What we’ll do

A Marshall Liberal Government will fix the notorious bottleneck north of Port Wakefield that has caused danger and frustration for motorists for decades.

We will ease congestion, reduce accidents and save you time by constructing an overpass at the Copper Coast Highway and Augusta Highway intersection.

Why we’re doing it

This intersection is one of regional South Australia’s busiest road junctions, notorious for heavy congestion particularly during long weekends and holiday periods when thousands of people visit the Yorke Peninsula.

On a normal day, the intersection is used by about 3,000 vehicles but during holiday weekends this soars to as many as 10,000 when it becomes a bottleneck creating traffic jams as long as 10 km as vehicles travelling from Yorke Peninsula attempt to merge and travel south through Port Wakefield.

The intersection also has a long history of accidents resulting in fatal or serious injury.

An investment in this overpass is an urgent priority and that’s why we are committed to delivering this vital piece of infrastructure.
