Royalties for regions

We are dedicated to strengthening regional SA

What we’ll do

A Marshall Liberal Government will ensure better, safer infrastructure with Royalties for Regions, a dedicated regional roads and infrastructure fund.

Each year, 30% of the State Government’s revenue from mineral and petroleum royalties will be paid into this fund, estimated to be $750 million over ten years.

This dedicated funding stream will ensure the delivery of key infrastructure improvements in addition to other productivity and safety-enhancing projects.

Why we’re doing it

Almost one in four South Australians live in our regions.

Our regions contribute over $25 billion a year to our Gross State Product and produce more than 50% of our merchandise exports.

Despite this, the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure is only proposing to spend 8.4% of its capital budget in the regions this financial year.

This under-investment in our regional infrastructure under Labor is nothing new.

In contrast, the Liberals understand that South Australia doesn’t stop at Gepps Cross and that’s why we are committed to investing in our regional roads and infrastructure.
