What we’ll do

A Marshall Liberal Government will use the Event Bid Fund to bid to for the World Water Ski Championships (WWSC) in 2021.

It is proposed that the WWSC would be held on the Torrens in the CBD, west of the Morphett street bridge.

It would be held over two weeks, with the formalities being concentrated around a 5-6 day period (dependent on weather). Aside from the WWSC, the International World Water Ski Congress meeting is held in the preceding or following week, attracting a host of international delegates.

This event is proposed to be held in September, which would assist with filling out South Australia’s events calendar

Why we’re doing it

The WWSC is an international event that brings together the world’s best ski racers competing for the prestige of being crowned World Champion.

It’s estimated the event could generate $10 million for the state economy and has a worldwide viewership of 300 million.

The international exposure from hosting this event would clearly greatly benefit South Australia’s international tourism reputation and would showcase the billions of dollars of recent investment in the Riverbank precinct.

That’s why we will prioritise a bid to host this important event.
